Success Stories: All Saints

All Saints Spitalfields started out as a menswear wholesale brand and is now operating as a fashion retailer in over 100 stores across the world. Wholesale Scout looks at its rise to success.

The All Saints brand, founded in 1994 by Stuart Trevor, was originally a wholesale menswear supplier that sold clothes to high-end retailers. Its customers included Harvey Nichols and Harrods.

Following rapid growth and the realisation of a potential clothing brand, the first stand-alone All Saints store was opened in Carnaby Street in 1997. A year later the brand began creating a womenswear line following the popularity of its menswear line and a demand from the public for innovative designs.

The brand became well known for its sharp, edgy and rock inspired clothing – something it is still well known for today. By 2004 there were ten stores operating across the UK and Kevin Standford, Co Founder of Karen Millen, bought out the original owner to develop the brand.

Following this All Saints launched an e-Commerce site, developed its designs and got ready to launch a childrenswear collection. However in 2011 the company came into financial difficulties and as a result were in major debt until it was bought by Lion Capital LLP.

Since the acquisition the company has expanded its retail and online presence.

Now the All Saints brand has over 100 stores worldwide and operates in 12 countries. They have stores in key areas including New York, LA, San Francisco, Paris and Berlin and there are over 2,500 staff working for the company.

All Saints have a strong alliance with the music industry and many music stars and celebrities have been seen sporting the brand. The brand has also collaborated with big names like U2, Stereophonics and Robbie Williams and in 2011 they launched Basement Sessions which sees weekly interviews with up and coming and established musicians.

Although it started as a wholesale menswear company, the brand now sells menswear, womenswear, footwear and accessories through department store locations, stand-alone stores and its website.
